Main Street Gym was established in 1993 when Hal Chernoff and Don Hall combined forces to build the area’s first youth-oriented boxing program. They solicited financial contributions, sourced in-kind donations and spent evenings and weekends converting an old Trailway’s Bus Terminal into a training facility, complete with a regulation ring and a mix of old school and cutting edge equipment. 

Today from our state of the art facility in Salisbury, we serve at-risk youth through our Boxing Club and Out of School Learning programs; train serious fighters who compete nationally, and offer personal training to members of the community. 

Main Street Gym is a member of the USA Amateur Boxing Federation. We emphasize a structured curriculum that prioritizes safety through both mental preparation and environmental control.   All of our equipment meets or exceeds USA Boxing standards and approval and all of our coaches and assistant coaches are USA Boxing certified.


Coach Hal has trained boxers for over 30 years and has achieved the ranking of Level 4 Certified Boxing Coach and is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer.  In the past 3 years, Coach Hal has  branched out and is personally training athletes from all sports, as well as dancers and senior citizens.  An important aspect of boxing and all sports is to avoid and prevent injury. Proper training of the right muscles cannot only extend your competitive years; but,  also turn back the clock and make you better than you were.  His clients walk away with the keys to sustained health and appreciate their newfound agility and balance they thought they could never have or have again.
